321-1 Rationalization of Foundation Treatment
Category
Construction
Description
Because hydropower sites on the middle and lower reaches of rivers generally have large river widths and thick gravel beds, dam foundation treatment costs increase. This technical development will attempt to improve the economic efficiency by reducing these foundation treatment costs as well as enable use at sites that not only have low heads, but also sites with medium and high heads.
Features & Advantages
- Constructing dams on gravel by carrying out water shielding treatment directly on gravel beds by using dam foundation treatment construction methods which use "bentonite-mixed concrete underground walls" and "WMC grouting", without excavating down to the bedrock when dealing with thick gravel beds on the middle and lower reaches of rivers, as is the case with conventional construction methods, and replacing with impermeable earth materials. This should result in greatly reduced excavation costs (civil engineering costs).
