Posted on: 27 April 2017
IEA Hydro's Small Scale Hydropower Annex II has published its Final Report into Sustainable Small-Scale Hydropower in Local Communities. The Task Leader, Dr. Yoichi Miyanaga of Japan, says that the study aimed to collect and document case histories of successful, sustainable projects by recognizing Good Practices - examples of projects that provide economic and social benefits to local communities - among operating commercially viable projects around the world, with a view to contributing to the promotion of small-scale hydropower development in the future. Good practices were selected according to the viewpoints of “economic viability of the project”, “economic benefits to local communities” and “contributions to local communities and environment”. 10 countries contributed a range of examples.
