Technology Collaboration Programme by IEA
Task 16 is investigating hidden hydropower opportunities and opportunities for hydropower development on existing Infrastructures. Hidden hydropower is related to situations where hydropower is usually not the primary focus but can be utilized with little additional effort and minimized impact. Examples are hydropower developments at non-powered dams, in drinking water networks or in artificial waterways and canals. Hoidden hydro is also referring to increasing the output of existing hydropower schemes by various types of upgrades or enhanced operation, e.g. by using headrace tunnels as active storage. Task 16 is also looking at small decetralized pumped storage making use of existing reservoirs.
